A Bengaluru software engineer seeking a partner online was duped of over Rs 30 lakh by cybercriminals. Posing as a Canadian national, the fraudster convinced her to pay various ‘charges’ for a parcel he claimed to have sent. When demands escalated, she realized it was a scam and alerted the police.
