In 1754, a teenage prince of Awadh, Shuja-ud-Daulah, was caught attempting to climb into a young girl’s window. His father, Safdar Jung, upheld the law, ordering the prince jailed like any common criminal. After a week, the prince was released following pleas from his mother and others, but his relationship with his father took time to mend.
