Iran jails filmmaker Jafar Panahi for a year in absentia for anti-govt activities

Acclaimed filmmaker Jafar Panahi has been sentenced to a year in prison and a travel ban in Iran for alleged “propaganda activities.” Panahi, who won the Palme d’Or this year, is currently abroad. This follows a previous conviction in 2010 for similar charges, which saw him banned from filmmaking and leaving the country.
