IIT Bombay–Monash team cracks TB mystery, finds lipid wall that helps bacteria outsmart drugs

Scientists have uncovered why tuberculosis bacteria evade antibiotics by entering a dormant state. Researchers found that dormant TB bacteria develop a thicker, more rigid outer membrane, acting as a barrier that prevents drugs from entering. This discovery suggests combining existing antibiotics with molecules that weaken this membrane could significantly boost treatment effectiveness against the persistent disease.
