In the United States, “football” refers to American football — a sport played largely with the hands and vastly different from the game the rest of the world knows as football. Every year, millions of Americans tune in to watch the NFL’s championship game, the Super Bowl. During the event, FIFA President Gianni Infantino reminded the US audience that the 2026 World Cup would be the equivalent of “104 Super Bowls.”
