Scientists have been watching this dying star for 130 years, and it’s heating up faster than any other known star

For the first time, astronomers have directly observed the rapid transformation of a dying star over 130 years. The ‘spirograph’ Planetary Nebula IC418’s green light has intensified 2.5 times since 1893, linked to a 3,000°C temperature increase in the central star. This unprecedented stellar evolution challenges existing models and may reshape our understanding of carbon production in stars.
