Rodent outbreak affects 15 villages & hamlets in Mizoram’s Mamit dist

Northwestern Mizoram’s Mamit district is grappling with a rat outbreak following the ‘Thingtam’ famine, triggered by bamboo flowering. Fifteen villages are affected, prompting the distribution of rodenticides and farmer education by agriculture officials. Heavy monsoon rains exacerbate the issue by promoting weed growth in jhum cultivation areas, increasing vulnerability to rodent attacks.
