A severe rat infestation, triggered by the ‘thingtam’ phenomenon, has ravaged over 1,700 hectares of paddy and other crops across Mizoram. Despite official efforts for mass poisoning, 73 farming families in Lunglei district refused, fearing contamination of their harvest and local streams.
