South Africa’s police minister suspended, inquiry launched

President Cyril Ramaphosa has initiated a commission of inquiry into Police Minister Senzo Mchunu following accusations of his ties to criminal gangs and interference in politically motivated murder investigations. Mchunu has been placed on leave, and Professor Firoz Cachalia will assume the role of acting police minister.
