California will now formally recognize Diwali as a state holiday. Governor Gavin Newsom signed a new bill, AB 268, into law. This allows public schools and community colleges to close for the festival. State employees will also receive paid time off. California becomes the first West Coast state to adopt this recognition. Other states have already taken similar steps.
