EU’s Sakharov Prize goes to imprisoned journalists

European parliament President Roberta Metsola has awarded this year’s Sakharov Prize to imprisoned journalists Andrzej Poczobut of Belarus and Mzia Amaghlobeli of Georgia. Both are recognised for their courageous reporting against injustice and authoritarianism, facing severe repercussions for their work. Poczobut, a Polish-Belarusian journalist, received an eight-year sentence for his critical coverage of protests.
