Farmers warn of a deepening water crisis as the dam’s resources are diverted to cities

Villages dependent on Pune’s Bhama Askhed dam face a severe water shortage as urban and industrial areas increasingly claim its supply. Over 6 TMC of the dam’s 7.35 TMC capacity is slated for urban consumption, leaving less than 1.5 TMC for agriculture. This reallocation, driven by growing city demands and industrial expansion, threatens the livelihoods of thousands of farmers.
