HC bail to US citizen jailed for overstay in country

The Patna High Court has granted bail to Eitan Ben Shahar, a US citizen held in an Indian prison since April for allegedly violating the Foreigner Act. Shahar’s counsel argued his overstay was due to ‘procedural lapses’ by immigration officers who permitted his re-entry from Nepal despite exceeding his tourist visa’s 180-day limit.
