ICAR-CIBA Scientists Sequence Goldlined Seabream Genome to Boost Aquaculture Potential in India
Scientists at the Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA) have successfully sequenced the genome of the goldlined seabream, locally known as ‘matti vaayan.’ This breakthrough aims to enhance the fish’s commercial aquaculture potential, addressing the high demand for its premium white meat. The genomic data will be crucial for selective breeding, broodstock management, and improving growth and disease resistance.
