Kolkata faced widespread power outages after a night of heavy rain caused severe flooding and electrocution deaths. CESC, the power utility, switched off supply in several areas, including Jadavpur and Behala, as water levels rose, threatening safety limits. Nearly a lakh consumers received SMS alerts about the disruptions.
