Marathon champion Shewarge Amare Alene passes away at 30 only four months after Stockholm victory

Ethiopian marathon champion Shewarge Amare Alene, tragically passed away in September 2025 at the young age of 30. Just months prior, she secured a remarkable victory at the adidas Stockholm Marathon in May, clocking in at 2:30:38. Her sudden demise followed an illness during a training run in Addis Ababa.
