Microsoft has launched a new team dedicated to advanced AI research, led by Mustafa Suleyman. Unlike some competitors pursuing generalist AI, this “MAI Superintelligence Team” will focus on specialist models designed to solve concrete problems with virtually no existential risk. The goal is “humanist superintelligence” aimed at practical applications that benefit humanity, such as improving healthcare and detecting diseases.
