Shiva Shankar Das, former Berhampur mayor and an accused in the murder of BJP leader Pitabash Panda, was transferred from Berhampur to Phulbani jail. This move was prompted by a court-accepted plea from jail authorities citing a life risk threat due to rivals being housed in the same facility.
