Researchers develop spherical cap studs as a comfortable alternative to traditional speed bumps

Researchers from NIT Silchar and Nirma University have developed Spherical Cap Studs (SCS) as a comfortable alternative to traditional speed bumps. Funded by DST, SCS gradually slows vehicles, reducing discomfort while maintaining safety. Tests on two-wheelers using speed profiles, VDV, and Se measurements showed that SCS offers similar speed reduction but lowers rider discomfort by 12.8–45.57%. This innovation is ideal for residential areas, campuses, and markets, providing safer, smoother rides and minimizing vehicle vibrations and health risks.
