Rob Reiner recounted his journey to landing the role of Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family. Initially not cast in an earlier pilot, Reiner’s work on Headmaster with Andy Griffith caught Norman Lear’s eye. This led to a second audition where he secured the iconic role, despite Penny Marshall not being cast as Gloria.
