Seek ‘consent’ before changing your baby’s diaper, experts advise
From the moment they’re born, experts emphasize that parents should introduce the concept of consent during everyday activities like diaper changes. By narrating every step and giving toddlers minor options, such as which toy to bring to the changing table, caregivers can instill a sense of personal agency. “There has been a lot of focus on the need to teach older children about consent. But parents should not wait until kids are teenagers to talk about appropriate touching or how everyone has the right to say what happens to their body. In fact, the earlier parents talk about this with their kids, the better.”
