Tamil Nadu rains: Chennai on orange alert, schools shut; cyclone expected

A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified, bringing rain to coastal districts including Chennai. The India Meteorological Department has issued red and orange alerts for extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall in several north and delta districts on Wednesday and Thursday. The system may strengthen into a depression, with a possibility of developing into a cyclone.
